Pin Cherry
Pin Cherry
Prunus pensylvanica
Pin cherry is a small native cherry tree, commonly found in the understory. This tree is one of the first to establish after disturbance and is highly valuable to wildlife! Pin cherry has showy white flowers and recognizable fruits. Pin cherry fruits are small and tart for humans but universally loved by wildlife! Pin cherry pits contain cyanide compounds, which can be poisonous. Swallowing a few pits is unlikely to cause harm; crushing, grinding, or chewing and ingesting pits should be avoided.
