American Hazelnut is a multi-stemmed spreading shrub. This shrub can tolerate most sites, from full sun to full shade, dry to moist, most soil types, and urban soil conditions. American Hazelnut produces edible hazelnuts in the fall. This shrub is excellent for wildlife who forage the nuts. However, this plant requires occasional upkeep to prevent excessive suckering.
